Day 5 was not too bad compared to the previous two days. I didn’t have any headaches today so I believe my withdrawal phase is over. I even took myself to Ikea and walked the entire store which is no easy feat even if you aren’t starving. I almost gave up and headed for the $4 Swedish meatballs. Thank goodness it was a holiday and the food area had a really long line. Well, the thought crossed my mind anyway.
I have to admit, I have been eating just a little bit of solid food. Hey, I’m not perfect. I should feel guilty, but it’s all been natural whole foods. I had a few roasted chestnuts and a chunk of a cherimoya. The cherimoya pictured below is MUCH tastier than it looks.
If you haven’t tried cherimoya, stop reading this and drive anywhere until you can find a store that sells it and then eat it. You will be amazed at how delicious a fruit can taste. It is like a mango combined with a pear but much tastier than both of them. Mark Twain described the cherimoya – also known as custard apple – as “the most delicious fruit known to man.” I found the cherimoya along with the chestnuts and young coconuts at a Vietnamese grocery store called Hoa Binh Garden Grove Supermarket. Mind you, the cherimoya is not cheap but it is so worth it as a treat once in awhile. This one was about the size of my hand and it cost just over $7.
We were so excited to buy a box of 9 young coconuts for only $9.99 at Hoa Binh. I’ve seen them sell for as much as $3 a coconut elsewhere. So, of course, we had to stop by Target and get a meat cleaver to open the coconuts. I found a very nice KitchenAid meat cleaver for $14.99. I’m feeling like I could live stranded on an island filled with coconuts now. As long as I have my meat cleaver and my MacBook I can survive. 😉
I have also been eating coconut meat as well as drinking the juice straight from the young coconut. Again, I didn’t have the heart to toss the super yummy coconut meat after I meat-cleaved open the coconut and drank the juice.

I ate a sweet potato (microwaved for 5 minutes with fork holes in it). Gasp! I didn’t add any butter or salt or anything for that matter so calm down. I have my reasons for eating the sweet potato. You see, I tried juicing it and it was just awful. It was kind of pasty and gross. It didn’t do this beautiful root justice. I just didn’t have the heart to let it go bad, so I zapped it and ate it.
Also, I had about 10 almonds today and a few yesterday which really does curb hunger quickly.
I think I’m still on track. I haven’t given up. This morning I saw on the scale that I’ve lost almost 5 pounds since starting my juice reboot last Thursday (5 days ago). I heard that you would lose a pound a day on the juicing reboot and it seems to be true. We’ll see if my sneaking the little bit of food today got me off track when I weigh myself tomorrow.
One last note, don’t forget to add ginger and turmeric root to your juices. Turmeric is more orange in color and much more expensive but you only need a little bit. Both are anti-inflammatory which can help with arthritis among many other things.
