Juice Reboot Day 2

1/12/18

Honestly, I thought this was going to be a lot more challenging. I thought I’d be curled up in bed for the first few days feeling miserable and kicking myself for being so unkind to my body all these years by eating all of those processed carbs, refined sugar, salt, caffeine, and alcohol. But, no, I feel fine.

I discovered that I don’t like grapefruit in my juices. I mean, I like grapefruit juice in a restaurant but in my juices, it tastes super bitter and makes the juice undrinkable. I’m curious if they add sugar to grapefruit juice in the restaurants or when you buy it in the store.

Since I was using a 7-year-old Jack Lalanne juicer that would jam often, was super slow, and very difficult to disassemble, I deemed that it was time to see what newer models are on the market. After much research, I purchased the Breville Juice Fountain Cold which retails for $179. I used a 20% off coupon at Bed Bath and Beyond. What a difference this machine makes! I mean it’s already fun to use a juicer but the “zjoop zjoop” sound as you place each piece of produce in the machine is so much more satisfying now. It pulverizes anything at lightning speed and it’s so much easier to disassemble than the Jack Lalanne. Also, it has more features, for example, a bigger pitcher to collect the juice, a nozzle for juicing into a glass or jar, and a foam catcher on the pitcher because you will learn by day 2 of your juice reboot that foam is not fun nor is it delicious. Well, I don’t even like beer foam, so maybe I’m unique.

I read in Joe Cross’ “Reboot with Joe” book that if you are doing a juice reboot for longer than 15 days, to include a scoop of plant-based protein powder in one of your juices per day. Yesterday I went to Whole Foods and bought Sun Warrior Plus Natural (unflavored) to include 1 scoop a day in either my breakfast or lunch juice. I like it just fine. You do notice that it’s in your juice but I don’t find it gross tasting. If you’re used to protein powders, you will like this one just fine. I like that I know for sure that I’m getting enough protein every day. It has 20 grams of protein per scoop. And I know there is also protein in a lot of the vegetable juice already.

Another suggestion from Joe was to put a teaspoon of coconut oil in one of your juices each day. I added a teaspoon of MCT oil which is similar but never becomes solid so it’s super easy to stir into my juice. It is derived from coconuts as well. This oil is touted as a miracle supplement for weight loss and suppressing hunger. I added this to my second juice of the day (a green juice). I guess it’s doing its job because I’m not feeling especially hungry,

Another fun idea that you can see in the picture above is making popcycles. I haven’t tried it yet but I set out the molds so I can try it soon. This would be nice with some pineapple, apple and oranges and maybe even a lime.

At this rate, I will have no problem completing my 20-day juice only reboot. Just keep me away from any food smells and I’ll be just fine.
