Today is Day 1 of my 20-day juice reboot. I’ll be only drinking juice and water for 20 days. I was inspired by the documentary “Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead” by Joe Cross. If you haven’t seen it yet, stop reading this right and now and see it. It’s available via Netflix or at http://www.fatsickandnearlydead.com for free.
My boyfriend Gus has been on the reboot for 10 days now and he has gone from 255 pounds to 245 pounds. He’s 6’2″ tall and 46 years old. I was on a vacation to see my mom that entire time so I didn’t see him as he lost the 10 pounds but OMG when he picked me up at the airport yesterday, I noticed immediately that he was skinnier. He looked younger and thinner and his skin was glowing. Also, his snoring was a lot less. It’s not gone yet, but I was able to fall asleep next to him without too much anguish.
I’ve been reading one of Joe’s books “The Reboot with Joe Juice Diet” book which covers the principles from the film as well as including instructions and recipes for pre-reboot, juice only reboot, juice plus food reboot, post-reboot, and general healthy recipes between reboots.
This morning I weighed myself. I’m currently at 168.0 pounds. I’m 5’5.5″ and big-boned. I’m 41 years old. I want to lose 20 pounds but even more motivating for me is that I want to feel better in my mind and body. I felt my best when I was at or under 150 pounds. I want to be able to exercise and run like I used to without pain.
Gus is doing a 30-day juice reboot, but I decided that I would like to set 20 days as my goal because on average I will lose 1 pound per day and that seems more realistic of a goal for me.
I’m hoping my other issues clear up in addition to the weight loss. I hear that I snore, I have weak and painful wrists including a ganglion cyst on the underside of my right wrist. I have a persistent cough including mucous that I can’t seem to shake. I have aches and pains in my back. It’s too painful to do pushups or yoga because of my wrist pain and burpees are out of the question and I’m one of those weirdos who actually likes burpees. Burpees are when you quickly get down to a pushup position, do a pushup and then quickly jump your feet to your hands and stand then jump up and clap. It is one of the best of the CrossFit exercises. Your heart rate will soar after only a few of them (maybe even after only one) but you can build up to doing more and more.
So, today is Thursday, January 11, 2018; Day 1. I feel good so far. I don’t feel hungry so this is easy so far. I’m nervous and I’m excited to do this if only because it would break Gus’s heart if I decided not to do it. He is my inspiration because if he can do it, anyone can. LOL. He had to deal with coffee (caffeine) withdrawal which I don’t anticipate for myself because he loved his coffee whereas I can take it or leave it.
I made Gus and myself this juice this morning for our breakfast.
7:30AM
Our morning juice:
(20 ounces per person)
1 beet
3-4 carrots
1 pear
1 large orange
(I added 5 ice cubes to mine because I like it somewhat colder)
Before I had the juice this morning I had a mug of hot water (microwaved for 1 min 30 sec) with slivers of ginger in it. I was supposed to add lemon juice but I didn’t have any lemons. I added some juice from an orange but it was not tasty. It tasted better with just the ginger root slices.
Side note: I only drink water from Wateria (a water store franchise) which uses reverse osmosis but you can use any filtered water that you like to drink. I don’t recommend drinking tap water. There are so many chemicals and toxins in tap water these days. Even the filter on my fridge doesn’t make water palatable enough for me.
